Choosing Fine Art paper
Choosing Fine Art paper
Fine Art William Turner
Matt, textured, thick paper; gives a three-dimensional effect.
Fine Art Hahnemühle Photo Rag
Matt, smooth paper that translates the colours in a deep, sensual way.
What is Fine Art paper and why is it so special?
"Fine art papers are based on cotton 'rag' or premium cellulose fibres and are created to the highest standards with specialist manufacturing processes. They tend to be significantly heavier and have a range of smooth or uniquely textured finishes that give them a much higher quality appearance and feel."
My personal recommendation when choosing paper is first to understand how certain image might look like when they are printed on either a textured or smooth paper. In images that show uneven textures, such as rock with its uneven lines–a textured paper can help bring out the pattern even more and make the print look three dimensional.
In images with more even and monotone colors and elements, one might want to avoid adding texture where it is potentially not wished, eg: sky.
This is however a personal preference and you should always go with what you think will work best for you. If you are not sure, get in touch, I am happy to help.
