What is Fine Art paper and why is it so special?

"Fine art papers are based on cotton 'rag' or premium cellulose fibres and are created to the highest standards with specialist manufacturing processes. They tend to be significantly heavier and have a range of smooth or uniquely textured finishes that give them a much higher quality appearance and feel."

My personal recommendation when choosing paper is first to understand how certain image might look like when they are printed on either a textured or smooth paper. In images that show uneven textures, such as rock with its uneven lines–a textured paper can help bring out the pattern even more and make the print look three dimensional.

In images with more even and monotone colors and elements, one might want to avoid adding texture where it is potentially not wished, eg: sky.
